Warden’s Lodgings & Gardens, New College, Oxford: Location in Endeavour Episode, ORACLE. NO SPOILERS

Hello everyone and welcome to a new post.

For those who have read my review of the episode, Oracle you may remember the location where Endeavour attends a recital, The Warden’s Garden.

(Apologies for my misspelling of the word ‘pickpocket). Up until reviewing the episode I wasn’t aware of the Warden’s Garden. I assumed that it was part of either All Souls College (which you can see on the left of the marked area in the above photo) or New College which it is part of.

The lodgings where first utilised in 1387.

Here is an article about the New College Warden’s Lodgings from the British magazine Country Life, 1962. Thank you to David Rees for sending the article to me.

A very interesting article. Of course nothing much has changed in the area since the article was written in 1962. The two photographs on the first page above (marked as page 769) look like this today.

Below is looking toward the Summer House in the Warden’s Gardens as seen on the map below.

I doubt one is allowed access to the Warden’s Gardens unless you are a student or former student. But I will certainly find out the next time I am in Oxford.

I hope you enjoyed this little slice of Oxford. Take care.

What is Patreon? Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid. It’s a membership platform that provides business tools for creators to run a subscription content service, with ways for artists to build relationships with their subscribers, or “patrons”.

With Patreon you set up how much you wish to pay monthly. There are three tiers, $5, $10 and $15. It’s like paying for a magazine subscription.

Patreon primarily uses Paypal which is easy to join and a safe way to send money. https://www.paypal.com/uk/home

After having looked after my mum for some 11 years she is now unfortunately in a nursing home. I'm afraid her dementia worsened as did her physical capabilities. UPDATE: My mum died from Covid-19 on the 6th May 2020. So, for the first time in 21 years I find myself no longer caring for anyone. Apart from my mum I was also a single parent to two children and also looked after my dad who had Alzheimers, (he died in 2005). So, I have decided to return to University to try and get another degree this time in English Literature. (My other degree I got some 30 years ago is one in Ecological Science). After a year at college I have passed all grades and now will start Edinburgh University in September 2019. I am now in second year having passed all the requirements in first year.
