Hello my friends and welcome to a late post on the weekly news in the Morse Universe. The reason for my tardiness is that my mother was taken to hospital yesterday, She is feeling a bit better but best of all the doctors have diagnosed the problems and are dealing with them. So, onward and upwards.
Well, one couldn’t start this weekly post without mentioning the biggest news for sometime, the release date for series four of Endeavour and a brilliant trailer for said trailer. The release date is the 8th January 2017 (Only for the UK I believe). Here is the trailer for series 4 below;
After watching that video the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. It of course sounds like Morse code being used throughout the video. The first part of the video had the code; dash, dash, dash dash, dash dash, dot dot dot, dot dot dot, dot dot dot, dash. Which if I am correct translates as, E, E, M, M, S, S, S, E. Make of that what you like.
Another piece of good news is that David Bishop the author of ‘The Complete Inspector Morse’ book is close to finishing his new version of the book which will include the Lewis series as well as the Endeavour series.
David has written that it will be published next month. Click here to see what David plans for the front cover of the new book. Looking forward to David’s book.

I hope your mother has a speedy recovery. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you. Thank you for this wonderful and informative web site. I look forward to it each week.
Thinking of you and your mother. I am THRILLED about the book. I have been so hoping he would continue on. Actually I’ve thought that you could write it yourself!
excellent round-up as ever…the book Ive been waiting for….at last.!!
I just went to amazon and this is what they said about the Bishop book: “Thirty years ago, new mystery series Inspector Morse made its TV debut and became a global smash. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, this essential companion to the show and Colin Dexter’s original Morse mysteries has been updated and expanded. It includes the first 13 episodes of Endeavour, a series about young Morse in the 1960s. Each story is analysed and critiqued, revealing the hidden gems and subtle links.” Do you think it means that Lewis is not dealt with – only Morse and Endeavour?? If so, I really do think you could do the Lewis. I think of all three series, Lewis is the best written, most erudite, and really the best acting. Just my most humble opinion. But I would so love a book that covered each episode. It is just so brilliant.
Hi Nan, David’s book does not deal with Lewis. Coincidently I have been thinking about doing a similar book on Lewis so watch this space.
That is the BEST news!
