Shirley Stelfox has died. Her agent said she had been diagnosed with cancer and passed away on Monday. Shirley played Mrs Kane the mother of the Sylvia Kane who is killed early on in the Inspector Morse episode of Last Bus to Woodstock.
Of course she is best known today for playing Edna Birch in the British TV soap, Emmerdale.
She had a short scene with Morse but played the grieving mother with great emotion and despair. She was 74.
I know her from Keeping Up Appearances. She played the ‘wild’ sister Rose in the early episodes.
