I apologise that that I have not posted for some time but unfortunately my mum, (whom I care for) was ill and subsequently I myself also fell ill. However, I am glad to report that we are both much better.
So here is my second post on the locations used in the episodes of ‘Lewis’. The first post can be found by clicking here. I hope you enjoy the following post.
Our first location is Magdalen College, High Street, Oxford which stands in for Seymour College and includes all the locations of this fictitious college, Principal’s house, quad, cloisters and forecourt.
—————————————-
Next is where Greely’s narrowboat is docked. Greeley is the first victim.
The location used was Riverbank, Shiplake College, Shiplake, Oxfordshire, ( http://www.shiplake.org.uk/ ). The building in the background in the first picture is to the right of the location in the picture below. The Police Range Rover parked in the second picture above would have been parked practically in the centre of the picture below and was probably placed there to hide the Shiplake College sign seen in the picture below.
————————————
The next location will be familiar to all Morse fans, the Randolph Hotel.
The Randolph is where Lewis and Hathaway interview Ingrid Nelson who will also be known to Morse fans as the actress, Sian Thomas, who played Carol Sharp in the episode, ‘The Last Enemy’. Click here for my review of that episode.
————————————
Next is the only pub Lewis and Hathaway visit during the episode and that is The Cricketers Pub, Horsell, Woking, Surrey. http://www.baronspubs.com/cricketers/
————————————————
Hathaway and Lewis visit the Bodleian Library to talk to Professor Gold who again will be familiar to Morse fans as Professor Gold is played by Anna Massey. She played Lady Emily Balcombe in the Morse episode, ‘Happy Families’.
This scene was filmed in the Duke Humfrey’s Library, Bodleian Library, Broad Street, Oxford.
—————————————-
Our next location is the bicycle shop owned by Harry Bundrick.
The shop used for Bundrick’s Bicycles was an actual bike shop called, Bike Zone which appears to have moved premises, 28-32 St Michael’s St, Oxford OX1 2EB.
Brasenose lane which runs east from Market Street is used in a scene when Lewis has left a meeting with Professor Gold. (Kevin Whately possibly applying for the role of James Bond 😉
—————————————
Our next location is the Ashmolean Museum where Lewis and Hathaway look at a greek coin.
The Ashmolean can be found at Beaumont Street in Oxford. http://www.ashmolean.org/ The Ashmolean recently secured Turner’s wonderful painting ‘The High Street, Oxford’ (1810).
I believe the street view below is how it looks today.
————————————————
Next we have Lewis and Laura Hobson discussing the post mortem while walking down Turl Street, Oxford.
————————————-
This location is where professor Gold has called together the members of the Sons of the Twice Born ‘club’.
This was filmed at St Mary Magdalene Church, Rowington Close, Paddington, London. http://www.st-mary-magdalene.co.uk/

————————————
New College, New College Lane, Oxford is the next location which stands in for Seymour College. This scene involves Lewis and Chief Superintendent Jean Innocent listening to chamber music.
New College Lane is also used during the scene where Lewis chases Linn after he runs from the hall where the chamber music recital was being played.
————————————-
Theodore Platt is hospitalised and this scene is filmed at Ravenscourt Hospital, Ravenscourt Square, Chiswick, London. The hospital closed in 2006.
———————————
Lewis and Hathaway stake out a establishment called Lovelines whose business is phone sex lines. This was filmed in London at Askew Road in Shepherd’s Bush.
——————————————-
Two locations were used for Platt’s residence. For the ground and temple, West Wycombe Park, West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
For the interior and exterior of Platt’s house, Allanbay Park, Howe Lane, Binfield, Berkshire.
And so we come to the end of another post. I hope you enjoyed the post and that it may become useful for some of you when you next plan to visit Oxford. I’m hoping that I will be able to do just that next year.
Great review, thank you!
Thanks Carol, i’m glad you liked it.
Glorious photos — thanks so much for sharing !!
You’re welcome Brenda, i’m glad you enjoyed the post.
Congrats as usual on excellent and detailed work….amazing how the locations are spread about.Great to read and enjoy…Thank You. Hope you and your family are all well recovered now…
Thanks Sue. Me and my mum are much better now thanks.
I am always amazed at the fact that every scene, inside and out, doesn’t take place in Oxford. I guess I am the viewer who believes completely in what I see. ;<))
Well researched info posted with regards Lewis. I find it so interesting knowing where what was filmed. The old with the new. Fox was tolerably in the series. Pity he’s dipped his toe into politics. Whately of course is an ace actor, as he was in Morse .
