Inspector Morse stars Thaw and Whately Croxley Green filming. From the Watford Observer 8th August, 2024.

A Watford Observer photographer made the short trip to Durrants House, in Croxley Green, on September 10, 1987 to take these photos of the late John Thaw and Kevin Whately outside the Tudor-type mansion.
Although there is no reference to Inspector Morse in our photographer’s diary for that day – it lists the assignment as ‘John Thaw filming, Durrants Hall, Croxley’ – it is reasonable to assume the actors who played DCI Morse and Sergeant Lewis were filming for the very popular drama detective television series.

Based on a series of novels by Colin Dexter, the drama was first broadcast on ITV in January 6, 1987 and was to run for seven series and five specials, totalling 33 episodes, with the final one airing on November 15, 2000.

Thanks for this post Chris. I must admit I’m one of “those” who doesn’t like and am not on social media except for your twitch stream. Really nice job merging the two Morses reciting one of my favorite poems. And that must have been a surprise coming onto that mural. Oxford is certainly Morse town!
Hi Kathleen. Coming across the mural was a huge surprise especially when I have never seen it mentioned anywhere else before.
