Hello everyone and welcome to a new post. In this video I talk about my five favourite minor characters from the original Morse series. I set the parameters of my choices to not include any minor character who had a hand in the plot or storyline. Let me know in the comments if you agree with my choices. If not, which minor characters would you choose and why. I hope you enjoy the video.

SPOILERS IN THE VIDEO.

  1. Thanks Chris I agree with all your choices and particularly #1. A lovely count down of firm favourites.

  2. Great choices. For me, Michael Hordern’s wonderful old schoolmaster in Service of All the Dead is top. Runners up: the lady at the cinema box office in The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn, the Master in Ghost in the Machine, Mrs Pearce in Secret of Bay 5B (it’s such a good, detailed performance) and Mrs Lapsley in Second Time Around.

  3. There are so many well-conceived minor characters. I was particularly taken with Mrs Kane – Shirley Stelfox, empathic, vulnerable, abused, but ever hopeful. One of those characters I wonder what happened to. I had not realised that she had played the initial Rose in Keeping Up Appearances.
