I have started my own Facebook page. It is primarily an extension of this website. I decided to start the Facebook page as there has been times when I have an update to a review post or some interesting news or information but it was all to small to make into a full blown post here on my website. What a great article on John Thaw, never seen this one before. I have also forwarded it to my parents who were avid Morse watchers. It’s still hard to believe he’s gone, he was a unique talent. Thank you for this website and happy new year!

Thanks for this article. I did not know some of his background, mainly how and when he discovered his illness. I never saw The Sweeney possibly because it never was shown in the US but I have seen Kavanagh and Goodnight Mister Tom, a wonderful movie. He will always be Inspector Morse to me though.

Came across Kavanagh QC on TV the other week, I think it was the opening episode, 2 hours but it never flagged. Interesting to see John Thaw begin establishing a new character, who has some things in common with Morse (I think) but is in a very different situation. Kavanagh is married (not an idyllic marriage though), his parents and in-laws & teenage children feature, as well as the work pressures and rivalries in a competitive legal world.
The courtroom scenes were good, tension building all the time, helped in no small part by the excellent Geraldine James, playing the opposing barrister and guest stars Alison Steadman and a young Ewan McGregor. I’ll say nothing about the plot or outcome, in case others come across it at some stage.
The episode was (well) written by Russell Lewis.
