Music Composer for Morse, Lewis and Endeavour, Barrington Pheloung Has Died.

Very sad news now filtering through that Barrington Pheloung the much loved music composer has died aged 65. He will of course be best remembered for creating one of the most enduring theme tunes of all time, The Morse theme.

I will write a more full and comprehensive obituary in the next few days.

Up until a few years ago I was my mum's full time carer. She died in, 2020, of Covid. At the moment I am attempting to write a novel.

  1. Thank you so much for informing us of this sad news. In July, I messaged him on Facebook hoping he could explain who the singer was for the Introductory song for Series 6, episode 3 of Endeavour, titled, Confection. It is the one where everyone kept thinking it sounded like Roy Orbison. I could see that he had read my messages, or someone did, but no one ever responded. This could explain why. Thanks for your wonderful music Barrington and May you Rest In Peace.

  2. What a magnificent talent. His music was always well done, but the Morse theme was so hauntingly beautiful and so appropriate to the personality of the character– unforgettable. I join the many who mourn his passing and pray for his eternal rest.

  3. This is a tremendous loss to Morse-dom and music overall. I spent years in the music business, both in broadcasting and with a record label, and can honestly say that anyone who contributed so much to his field and the importance of mood-setting in movies and television – including the sheer brilliance of musically spelling out “M-O-R-S-E” in Morse code – has my undying respect. R.I.P., Maestro.
