OBITUARY: Another Star of the Morse Universe Dies: CLIVE SWIFT.

Hello everyone and welcome to a new but solemn post.

Sadly, another star of the Morse universe has passed away, Clive Swift.

Clive appeared in the second episode of the first series, The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn.

Clive played the Dr Bartlett the man in charge at the examination syndicate and possible suspect in the murder of Nicholas Quinn.

Clive was a stalwart of British TV, radio and stage since the early 1960s. Of course, he will be best remembered as the henpecked husband of Hyacinth Bucket.

Clive died last Friday after a short illness. He was born in 1936.

Below is a short video of his role as Dr Bartlett in the Morse episode. Clive, thank you for being part of the Morse universe. Morse fans all over the world will be mourning your loss. As a tribute I personally will be watching the episode you starred in tonight.

The Youtube video has been blocked in the USA so another version is below the first one.

After having looked after my mum for some 11 years she is now unfortunately in a nursing home. I'm afraid her dementia worsened as did her physical capabilities. UPDATE: My mum died from Covid-19 on the 6th May 2020. So, for the first time in 21 years I find myself no longer caring for anyone. Apart from my mum I was also a single parent to two children and also looked after my dad who had Alzheimers, (he died in 2005). So, I have decided to return to University to try and get another degree this time in English Literature. (My other degree I got some 30 years ago is one in Ecological Science). After a year at college I have passed all grades and now will start Edinburgh University in September 2019. I am now in second year having passed all the requirements in first year.

  1. Due to copyright laws, the video won’t play in US. But I have all the DVD’s so I can watch that one again too.

    1. Kathlenn I have put two versions on my post. One is a youtube one and one I uploaded directly to my website. You will be able to watch the latter one.

  2. I’m sorry I can’t watch the video here in the U.S. Clive Swift was one of my favorites, and I’ll be watching “Nicholas Quinn” tonight.
I join other fans who mourn his passing, but thank him for his work and cherish his memory. May he rest in eternal peace.

    1. Frances I have put two versions on my post. One is a youtube one and one I uploaded directly to my website. You will be able to watch the latter one.

  3. So sad, he was a great actor. I saw him first at the RSC in Stratford. I remember him striding across the green to the stage door, always smiling & polite to autograph hunters like me.
