Update to my Post on the Music Included in the Endeavour Episodes.

Hi everyone. I was talking to Matthew Slater the composer and conductor of many of the recent episodes of Endeavour. I did not recognize a piece of music at the beginning of the episode of Passenger. I thought it had been written by Matthew but he replied it was actually a piece by Vivaldi called Al Santo S.epolcro.

Rather embarrassing as I have been a fan and admirer of Vivaldi for many, many years (Even though Morse thought Vivaldi was only good for cheering people up). Can’t believe I didn’t recognize it. Probably got too cocky and arrogant.

Anyway, I have updated the excel sheet and PDF with the new information. Of course you can also update your own excel sheet from the previous post if you wish just by enabling editing.

  1. About Morse’s comment ” cheering people up ” to this composer? Smiling- cheerful it is not to me- but sets a mood ;o)

    1. Beautiful list! Thanks a lot 🙂 I was all over the net trying to find the opening music to the young inspector Morse in season 7 episode nr. 3. I have heard it many times before and love love it. The thing is I cant remember who and what and wonder if you could give me a tip please? Cant find it here on the site??

  2. I would never have recognised this work as being composed by Vivaldi! It is a million miles away from the work that I know and love.

  3. How fabulous to have this music from Endeavour available for listening on YouTube! Thank you!

    1. Thank you Kathlenn and thank you everyone for the lovely comments regarding the music lists.

      1. Thank you so much for the information you have provided. It is much appreciated.

  4. Hi Chris ,
I just finished Endeavour 2.3 Sway and near the end , there is a piece of classical violin music when Morse was burning the letter from the Italian lady to Inspector Thurday – I can’t figure out which piece it is and it is bugging me . Can you help ?
And it is definitely not Albinoni’s Adagio in G minor either .

  5. I can sleep now the musical puzzle is solved – I accidentally came across that particular sad piece of music played at the end of Endeavour 2.3 Sway and it wasn’t Mahler as I first thought but Elgar Sospiri op 70 .

  6. Do you know the name of the tune at the start of Series 6 episode Pylon? Morse is in a church I think listening to a concert performance played on glasses filled with water etc.

    1. Hi Pete, it will be mentioned in my review of the episode. All Endeavour music, classical and modern, can be found under the heading at the top of the page titled ‘Music of Morse and Endeavour’.

  7. In the Endeavour episode “Rocket”, Dido’s lament (When I am laid in earth) from Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” is played. Does anyone know who is the singer and musicians in this performance? Is the full opera available on CD?

    1. I believe the singer is Janis Kelly who has done a lot of the opera singing in the Morse and Endeavour series.
