What is Patreon? Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid. It’s a membership platform that provides business tools for creators to run a subscription content service, with ways for artists to build relationships with their subscribers, or “patrons”.

With Patreon you set up how much you wish to pay monthly. There are three tiers, $5, $10 and $15. It’s like paying for a magazine subscription.

Hello everyone and welcome to a new post. As the title of this post states, ITV recently announced the UK air dates for the ninth and final series of Endeavour. Here are those dates.

Here is a video on my thoughts on the final series. Let me know in the comments what you hope to see in the final series and more importantly will you be watching it or has series seven and eight made you give up on the series.

Enjoy.

Author: Chris Sullivan

Up until a few years ago I was my mum's full time carer. She died in, 2020, of Covid. At the moment I am attempting to write a novel.

  1. Happy new year! Thank you so much for putting up that video with your thoughts, Chris. Enjoyed your pick of music & careful images w/ your voice.
I definately agree with your hopes for series 9.
For I, too, was very disappointed with the writing & some acting in series 7 & especially 8.
Looking forward to see how it will end.
    Cheers!

  2. Good to hear your voice, Chris, during our hiatus from Twitch. Thanks for your musings about possible plot developments. I had forgotten all about the Sam Thursday plot–a sign of how very poor the Season 8 writing was. I’m still hoping for a cameo by Kitty Whately (singing opera, of course!), but that’s a lost cause. Interested to hear what everyone else thinks.

  3. Thanks for that recap, Chris. Another idea- What if the Thursday family goes to visit Thursday’s son who has been found seriously wounded and they all get killed in a Belfast British Army hospital bombing? Hospital bombings did happen and ‘in 1972, 9 people were killed in a series of bombings in Belfast. The attacks were carried out in response to Bloody Sunday and became known as Bloody Friday.’
The writers could conflate these events.
I can imagine Endeavour never wishing to speak about them again and mourning the love of his life (at that point anyway- I know-later Susan) and his true father-figure.
That would keep Endeavour from having actual complicity in the losses but still being traumatized and drinking about it but not speaking about it.
    Just a thought.

    1. Terry, I prefer this possible scenario to the alternatives. It would help make sense of the Sam Thursday plot. Time will tell. . . .

    2. Hello Terry – that thought of introducing IRA bombings which killed the Thursdays sounds familiar to me 😉. I mentioned it in chat, remember? Thursdays going to Ireland looking for Sam.. I thought of a bomb in a car – the hospital is a good idea! And keeping Endeavour out of guilt sounds good to me. But would he not get over his mourning later in his life and talk about them if there were no guilt? I really hope the writer will give us a good explanation!

      1. Hi Brit, That would be my question too, why would the bombing be a cause for the Thursdays never to be mentioned again in Morse, not even by Strange. In a previous comment I half-jokingly mentioned the Thursday family gong into the witness protection program but maybe that’s not so far fetched. That certainly would be a reason no one ever mentions them again. The suspense is killing me! 🙂

  4. I think however Thursday meets his end it must be under circumstances that Endeavour has directly caused either by being naive, taken in again by another nefarious women (always his weakness) as in the Ludo plot, or in pursuit of something he just can’t let go of, something that “has to be put right.” Something Fred has to save him from and something that is entirely his fault, maybe, as you say Chris, it is Ludo coming back for revenge but I can’t see this as being enough of a reason Fred is never mentioned again.
Or perhaps Endeavour is in danger, through no fault of his own, and Fred “sacrifices” himself to save him. Either way guilt would be the reason he never can talk about Fred. As far as his family goes perhaps this something endangers Fred’s family too and, as he did with Monica, leaves them for their own safety. I just can’t see Win and Joan turning against Endeavour as they have been close to him through thick and thin. Maybe it is witness protection program!! 🙂

    1. Hello Kathleen! These are very interesting thoughts. My idea about Win and Joan is – they both die – and Endeavour cannot save them. And Fred sacrifices himself protecting Endeavour – who might have been too courageous or careless when he tried to protect Joan and Win… Maybe we should write the episode – all together 😊. As it seems we are writing to each other at the same minute!!!!

  5. Whatever it is, I just hope it’s meaningful. I finally finished watching Morse recently, and was so disappointed in his death. It was not the worthy cause it should have been. Kind of reminded me of what happened in Unforgotten — so random, and just such a waste.

  6. Thoughts: although we know Morse’s MkII Jaguar will appear, I’m hoping (in vain) it will be after a (short) time jump in ‘Epilogue’; I just can’t imagine a DS with such a car. Maybe a very last scene of SE seeming older, doing the usual Morse ‘drive away’? To me, it would be most fitting if ‘Sacrifice’ had a range of meanings. It could apply to Thursday (loses his son, and his mentee), Endeavour (loses Joan, and his mentor). I’m still hoping (against hope) we may one day persuade the very excellent SE to return as a senior DS or, even better, a young inspector. It’s something some would kill for!

    1. Unfortunately Shaun cannot return as an older Morse. Colin Dexter stipulated when he was alive, and in his will, that no one was to play an older Inspector Morse and so not encroach on John Thaw’s portrayal.

      1. I thought the term was only that SE could play Morse? Does that not leave room for a pre-DCI film or two for SE?

  7. I have to admit that I never really warmed to Shaun Evans as the young Morse (despite the exemplary casting and performance of the other main characters), and my patience was finally exhausted by the substandard series 7 and 8, which went nowhere. Yes – there must be an ending, but it should have been at episode 99, or possibly 100, with loose ends tied up irrevocably. Shall I watch series 9? – probably on catch-up, but with no real sense of anticipation…Sorry to be so downbeat, Chris, after all you’ve done to inform, entertain and motivate the Morsels worldwide, but many many thanks for the good times…
