Personal Post Update

I will keep this short. I am back in Scotland. Regarding the job, I don’t think I have ever been as deceived, humiliated or lied to. I don’t want to go into any detail as I am trying my best to stop myself falling to pieces. I know the black dog is circling but I am doing my best to keep it at bay.

Thank you all for your support in the past. I will do my best to get things back to some kind of normality regarding the blog and myself.

Love

Chris

After having looked after my mum for some 11 years she is now unfortunately in a nursing home. I'm afraid her dementia worsened as did her physical capabilities. So, for the first time in 21 years I find myself no longer caring for anyone. Apart from my mum I was also a single parent to two children and also looked after my dad who had Alzheimers, (he died in 2005). So, I have decided to return to University to try and get another degree this time in English Literature. (My other degree I got some 30 years ago is one in Ecological Science. Firstly I have to complete an intensive year at college which starts at the end of August 2018. If I pass the college year I will then be able to go straight into Edinburgh University. A busy time ahead made even busier by my writing a book on the TV series, Lewis.

  1. I am sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time – I don’t really know you, but I’m quite sure you don’t deserve this. I wish you all the best, some lucky breaks and the strength to deal with everything. Hang on in there!

  2. Really very sorry to read this Chris, a huge disappointment I’m sure and worse considering the upheaval you had to go through to accept it. I hope you get your equilibrium back and some sense of peace very soon. All good wishes to you.

  3. I am so sorry to hear this Chris and I wish you the very best; I also suggest that you seek prefessional help – you should not have to cope with this alone – I speak as one who has suffered in a similar way.

  4. I believe that things happen for a reason. This plan may have fallen through but maybe that just means it’s not the right thing for you anyway. Keep your head up. Keep moving forward. We’re all praying for you.

  5. I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience. Take care and get professional help if you need. Mental health is essential to your quality of life. Thanks for the blog and all that you do. I really enjoy it.

  7. Chris – so sorry for this – this will be something you will need to work through, however I was badly misled in my last role – I lasted almost a year and regret sticking it out that long as it exhausted and exasperated me. Just recovering now after 4 months off. You will recover but do take extra care of yourself!

  8. Chris, I am so very sorry you have had to experience the worst in man. You have surrounded yourself with some of the Best, those who truly like and support you here. Please draw strength from your friends who stand ready to help. Seek out professional help if you need it, and find it in your heart to ask God to forgive those who have wronged you. Prayers for you and your family. Nancy

  9. Hugs and as others have said this “job” must not have been where you are suppose to be. Best to you and keep your chin up!

  10. Although we’ve never met, I think I know what kind of person you are. You took care of your mother for many years, you love music, literature and art. A person like this deserves better treatment from people in this world. Unfortunately, kindness and fairness are seldom valued anymore. But carry on- there are some of us who do value those things!
(Plus you love Morse so no more need be said!)
    Wishing you better days,
    Kathleen, USA

  11. I am so sorry to hear your news. I like your blog and look forward to it. When you have an experience like you did, to your credit you got out and that is what counts. I stayed way too long in a job once and today, I would leave as soon as something felt wrong.

  12. Prayers for you, Chris. You are talented and deserve good in your life. All the best and hoping that all will be well. Ann K, USA.

  15. Very sorry to hear of your problems Chris, but remember business ‘friends’ are just that…personal friends are those that count. Don’t wallow in the situation ~ what would Morse have done ~ got back to work asap. Do the same …. do what you do best. People look to you for information & insight in all matters in the Morse Universe. Don’t let them down.! Stay strong.

  16. Hold on in there Chris and if possible try to get some professional help. Life can be very hard at times but these things do pass. Look to the positive people in your life x

  17. Oh Chris, such a rough transition you’re in. Take heart though – we’re living in insane times & betrayal is always about the other person, don’t let it sink into your core or believe for one minute that it’s about you. Hopefully this means you’ll get something even better and still be close to your mom in the bargain 🙂 Brighter days ahead.

  18. Take care of YOU first and foremost!! Very sorry for your disappointment and especially for the betrayal that you encountered. Give yourself some time to regroup, brush off the experience as a hard lesson learned and know that there is something much better awaiting you when the time is right!! Take care!!

  19. So very sad and sorry….sending out healing and hope for you. Stay strong and seek help. These things are hard to cope with on one’s own.

  20. I am so sorry to hear that things didn’t work out as expected and planned. I sincerely hope something better comes in your way soon! Cheer up!!!

Without ever having met you, I feel you’re a friend, and I, too, feel that there is something better in your future. I am praying earnestly for you.

  23. So sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. You have brightened many lives and brought joy to legions of fans of Colin Dexter’s characters. It is clear from the replies you are loved and respected. I wish you brighter days ahead and will continue to look forward to reading your postings.

  26. Dear Chris, very sorry to hear about your disappointment. Please don’t let it take over. I hope you will find courage and strength, and that you will continue to find joy in the Morseandlewisandendeavour universe. I appreciate your work very much and hope we can share more fun, admiration and even frustrations 😉 There is bbeauty, in the world. Hang on in there!

  27. I’m so sorry to hear all of that. Don’t let how they treated you make you feel differently about your worth. xxxx

  28. Julian of Norwich famously said, “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well,” and I’ve found those to be very helpful words in times of crisis, only partly because they’re true. You may have to adjust your definition “well” somewhat in the end, but…true nonetheless. You will get through this. You have friends. If you’ve been the caregiver for your mother for ten years, you are obviously an honorable man. All that, together, means that your life is, and will be, on the positive side of the ledger sheet, though there will be emotional humps, like this one, along the way.

  29. I hear your pain and frustration.
I can only hope that you will not let that adversely affect you and your work.
    Keep up your outstanding work.
    Best wishes!!!

  30. Please read all the comments. People care so much about you. I know someone who has had much the same experience. I hope you can concentrate on your kids and your home country which is so lovely. May you find peace, and come talk to us anytime you need to. What is it Van Morrison says, “don’t let the bastards drag you down.”

  31. Chris, many years ago I went through a very similar experience; lied to by a ‘friend’, deceived by his business partner and left in a very bad position. At the time I struggled to see a brighter future but I did find a way forward and with help from friends and family, I found a much position. Steve

  32. i hope you can recover soon. It is most important you do so for yourself. please seek help if you find that you cannot do it yourself.

  33. So sorry that things have turned out this way, hope you can pick up the peices, return to your old house etc.At least you will be nearer now to your mother. What you mean to all of us who are fans of the whole Morse universe is priceless…..so very valued on your blog, your veiws etc. May Fortune smile on you and things settle down again…and hope you find a job up there.! A lot of us would like to meet you, so lets hope that works out, Oxford being the place of course…..xx

  34. I’m so very sorry to hear about this, Chris. I know how much you were looking forward to your new life in Bucks. I hope you can heal quickly and come up with a new plan. We’ll help if we can.

  35. Hello Chris, I have only just today read your post. I’m sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time. Many of the above comments are quite remarkable. It’s to your credit that you have garnered such an outpouring of support in your moment of need. I’ll I can contribute is to note that I too have had my share of excruciatingly difficult situations at work. It definitely hurts. Please take some time for yourself. Definitely get outside and have a walk. I’ve enjoyed your blog in the past and will look forward to reading new posts when you are ready.
